Well hello friend!
My name is Laura Ranae Thomas and I am a natural light photographer that captures weddings, portraits and family photography. My husband Derek and I have been married for over three years now and we live in a suburb of Minneapolis with our crazy golden retriever, Penny. In May 2020, we will become a family of three with the addition of our sweet baby boy - YAY!! Derek is my behind the scenes support and he occasionally works alongside me as my side kick. If we aren't working, we love anything outdoors especially if it involves being out on the water. I am a huge dog lover and I love it when my clients want to include their dogs in their pictures.
One of my passions is getting to know new people and learning what makes them unique. My goal as a photographer is to create photographs that capture authentic beauty and the most special moments in life. There is nothing better than having beautiful photographs to cherish and pass down for generations to come!
Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been a photographer?
I've grown up loving photography, but I officially took the plunge and started my photography business in early 2017. I've taken multiple photography courses over the past few years and after starting my business began capturing families and couples. Soon after, I started second shooting weddings with my wonderfully talented fellow photographers. Shooting weddings officially got me hooked on photography. I am so grateful for all of the people that continue to stand by my side, encourage me, challenge me and teach me to be the best photographer that I can be. I wouldn't and couldn't continue this adventure without them!
What equipment do you use?
My photography mentor first introduced me to Nikon and I've never looked back. I now shoot with a Nikon D750 and I typically stick with my prime lenses. My 35mm and 50mm lenses come with me wherever I go, and for weddings I also bring a 70-200mm. When needed, I use flash to bring in light for those darker, but romantic settings.
What is your favorite part about your job?
If you can't already tell, I'm a big people person. Working a job where I get to meet new people all the time is a true blessing. I love capturing people as they light up around the ones that they love or being in their favorite corner of the earth. It is such a joy and a privilege to join in on people's greatest life adventures and give them photographs to treasure these moments for the rest of their lives.
